What the pay terms mean

Main pay range (MPS, M1 to M6): The pay range for qualified classroom teachers in maintained schools, set each year in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document. Teachers usually move up a point each year, subject to their performance. Academies can set their own pay, but most follow it.
SEN allowance: An extra payment for teachers in a special school or a role that mainly involves teaching pupils with special educational needs.
Full-time equivalent (FTE): The salary if the job were full time all year. If the job is part time or term time only, you are paid a proportion of it, often called pro rata.
Term time only (TTO): You work during school terms, plus any training days, and are paid for those weeks plus holiday entitlement, usually spread over 12 monthly payments.
