Made with the people who keep children safe.
Pupil Protect helps schools and trusts in England record safeguarding concerns, act on them and keep the record that follows a child. We build it with designated safeguarding leads (DSLs), and hold it to the standard their work deserves.
Why Pupil Protect exists
Safeguarding usually starts with one adult noticing something small. Whether that worry reaches the right person quickly, and is still there years later when it matters, depends on the record.
In many schools that record is spread across paper forms, inboxes, spreadsheets and people’s memories. DSLs spend hours piecing it together before a meeting or an inspection. That is time that should go to children.
Pupil Protect gives the record one home: quick for any adult to add to, clear for the DSL to act on, and safe enough for the most sensitive information a school holds.
Pupil Protect was founded in 2026. Our founder has worked in edtech and health tech, and the first product they worked on was a safeguarding tool. In the 10 years since, the safeguarding products schools rely on have stagnated. So we started again.
How it’s built
Four commitments shape every screen, and we check our work against them before anything is released.
With DSLs
Features start from a DSL’s real work: the form a tutor fills in before registration, the chronology read before a core group, the export an inspector asks for. An advisory group of practising DSLs helps decide what we build next, and DSLs in early-access schools try new features before they’re released.
Accessibility first
Staff use Pupil Protect on laptops, phones and reception kiosks, often in a hurry. Every screen works with a keyboard and a screen reader, at larger text sizes, and in light, dark and high contrast themes. We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 AA.
Privacy by design
Records are seen only by the people who need them, and every view is logged. Hide names and Blank screen are on every screen for staff working in shared spaces. Alert emails say only that something needs attention, never who or what.
AI that never decides
AI drafts and summarises. A person checks and approves everything it writes, and it never sends or shares anything. A child’s words are never changed.
Calm, clear, and nothing cute near a child’s record
These principles come from our design system. Every screen and every sentence we write is checked against them.
- Calm over delightPeople using Pupil Protect are often dealing with something upsetting. No celebrations, no jokes, no movement for its own sake.
- Plain wordsShort sentences in British English. Buttons say what will happen, such as “Send to DSL”, never “Submit”.
- Facts, not opinionsForms and AI help staff write down what they saw and heard, not what they think it means.
- A child’s words, exactlyQuotes are kept as they were said, and never tidied up by a person or by the AI.
- Never colour aloneEvery status is written in words as well, so it works for everyone, on every screen.
How we work with schools
You’re trusting us with records about children. We try to earn that every day, not only when you sign up.
Support
Contact support from inside Pupil Protect, so we know which school you’re in. We’re open 8am to 6pm and reply within 2 working days.
No one at Pupil Protect can see your concerns. If we need to look at something to fix a problem, we have to request access first, or request to sign in as one of your users. Every request, and everything we do, is recorded in your audit trail.
Training
When a school goes live, staff get a short briefing and the DSL team gets training on concerns, chronologies, plans and reports. After that, recorded videos cover each part of Pupil Protect, so new staff can catch up at any time. We can also train your team in person at your school, for a fee.
Product decisions
What we build next comes from what DSLs ask for and what we see them struggle with. We publish what has changed in each release. If something you rely on is going to work differently, we tell you at least 30 days before. The only exception is an urgent security fix, which we explain as soon as it’s released.
The team
Pupil Protect is one person for now, working closely with DSLs in the advisory group and early-access schools.
