Every school in England must have a designated safeguarding lead (DSL). Keeping Children Safe in Education says the DSL should be a senior member of staff from the leadership team, and that the role can’t be delegated, though deputies can carry out much of the work.
The DSL’s training should be updated at least every two years, with knowledge refreshed at least once a year. In smaller primaries the headteacher is often the DSL, so look at the leadership jobs too.
