About the job

Parkside Community Primary School is a one-form entry school, with two classes in Year 6, proudly serving the Borehamwood community. We are committed to building an inclusive and ambitious school where every pupil is valued, supported and inspired to achieve their very best. Our vision, “Nurturing and Inspiring Young Minds Toward a Bright Future,” is at the heart of everything we do.

We are seeking to appoint a Lead Teacher for Adaptive Teaching. This is an exciting opportunity for an effective class teacher who is ready to develop their leadership experience and make a difference to teaching and learning across the school.

The successful candidate will remain a class teacher and have protected time to lead the development of high-quality responsive and adaptive teaching. A key part of the role will be reviewing planning across the school and working with colleagues to ensure it supports teachers to respond to pupils’ prior knowledge, needs and developing understanding.

You will support colleagues through team teaching, modelling and coaching, and deliver whole-school professional development. The role is not a senior leadership post, but there may be opportunities for secondment to the Senior Leadership Team when relevant. It offers an excellent opportunity for an aspiring leader to build experience while continuing to teach and contribute directly to pupils’ learning.

As Lead Teacher for Adaptive Teaching, you will:

  • Teach an assigned class and model effective classroom practice.

  • Review planning across the school, working with colleagues to ensure it supports responsive teaching and is manageable for teachers.

  • Help staff use assessment and their knowledge of pupils to identify what pupils understand, where they may need further support and how to extend their learning.

  • Support teachers to adapt explanations, modelling, questioning, scaffolding and practice while maintaining high expectations for all pupils.

  • Work alongside colleagues through team teaching, demonstration lessons and coaching.

  • Plan and deliver whole-school professional development on adaptive teaching.

  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO, curriculum leaders and other colleagues to support inclusive classroom practice.

  • Share effective approaches and resources that help all pupils access an ambitious curriculum.

  • Contribute to the school’s improvement work relating to teaching and learning.

  • Develop your leadership skills through agreed projects and, where relevant, opportunities for secondment to the Senior Leadership Team.

This post will suit a teacher who is reflective, collaborative and passionate about helping colleagues strengthen everyday classroom practice. The successful candidate will be committed to high expectations, inclusion and ensuring that responsive teaching helps every pupil to participate, learn and succeed.

Why Join Parkside?
  • Join a committed, friendly and hardworking team of staff and governors.

  • Be part of a school community that values collaboration, inclusion and high expectations for all.

  • Have protected time to develop teaching and learning across the school.

  • Build leadership experience while continuing to work directly with pupils as a class teacher.

  • Make a meaningful contribution to pupils’ learning and the professional development of colleagues.
