About the job

Do you want to make a real difference to the lives and futures of young people? If you are ready to lead inclusion with purpose, work collaboratively and help shape better outcomes for our students, we would be delighted to hear from you.

At CP Riverside School, we believe that every student has the potential to succeed, but that not every student will take the same path to get there. Following the retirement of our long-serving Assistant Principal, we are looking for an Assistant Principal (Inclusion) who shares this belief and has the experience, determination and compassion to turn it into reality.

This is an integral role within our Senior Leadership Team, with the opportunity to shape how we support students, develop our staff, and ensure every student has the chance to achieve their best. We are looking for someone who understands that inclusion is not simply about the provision we put in place; it is about the relationships we build, the expectations we set and the barriers we work together to remove.

You will lead our provision for disadvantaged students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), English as an Additional Language (EAL), those who are looked after or previously looked after and those entitled to pupil premium. As SENCO and Designated Teacher for Looked After and Previously Looked After Children, you will bring these areas together into a clear, effective strategy that makes a difference in the classroom and beyond.

During our most recent Ofsted inspection (April 2026), Ofsted said, ‘This is an inclusive school. All pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), disadvantaged pupils and those known, or previously known, to social care, are helped to achieve, belong and thrive.’

Working closely with colleagues, families, external agencies, and governors, you will help ensure support is purposeful, students make strong progress, and staff feel confident meeting a wide range of needs. You will also play a key role in developing teaching practice, coaching colleagues and using evidence to understand what is working well and where we need to do better.

This is a role for a leader who can think strategically but is equally comfortable being visible around school and working alongside staff and students. You will have high expectations, a clear sense of moral purpose and the confidence to challenge when needed, while recognising that lasting improvement comes from working together.

In return, all staff members receive free access to our SAS Wellbeing support package, protected weekly CPD and leadership time, supportive line management practices and opportunities for further professional development through the East Midlands Education Trust Teacher Training Partnership.

On the application form, please focus on a detailed 'supporting statement' taking into account the person specification and indicating why you would be the best person for us to recruit to this position.
